JR Shield

The JR shield was founded in 2019 and incorporates a friendly competition between disciplines within the School of Environment internal to the UoA. Disciplines represented are Geoscience, Geography, Geo-spatial, and Environment – all sections have a designated specialty representative on the RTEA committee.

JR shield 2021

Sports Event #1

Volleyball

Date: 18th March 2021

Volleyball was chosen as the first sporting event for the RTEA with a BBQ spread for those participating and cheerleading. However, there was unanticipated troubles and there ended up being a friendly game of badminton.

Sports Event #2

Dodgeball

Date: 13th May 2021

Dodgeball was chosen for the second sport of the JR shield! A great turn out with some great throws and even more amazing dodges. Overall, GIS science won!

Sports Events #3 and #4

Unfortunately, 2021 semester 2 sports events could not go ahead due to the later 2021 COVID lockdown. There have been additional online events to make up for these activities which have been counted towards the JR shield! Please refer to Lockdown Events for more information by clicking here.

JR Shield 2020

There were numerous activities that allowed students to participate in the JR shield online and in person once the lockdown was lifted. There have been posts throughout the RTEA Facebook page, click here to view.

JR shield 2019

The sporting events in 2019 that was lead by the AUGA (Auckland University Geoscience Association), this included events such as geological bake off, volleyball, dodgeball, and pub quiz.
